The man was music director SP Kodandapani who convinced SPB to come for an audition a few days later. SPB laughed with a deep sense of déjà vu. After his performance as he was sitting in the audience and listening to other participants, a man approached SPB and asked him if he would like to sing in the movies. The singers were chosen in alphabetical order, and SPB was the first to sing. This gave SPB a chance to reinvent himself. The rules of the competition stated that singers had to present their original compositions – both music scores and lyrics. SPB's roommate, Murali, who knew about his music talents, secretly enrolled SPB's name in the competition and SPB was forced to participate. On one occasion, the Andhra Social Cultural Association had organised a music competition where the top music maestros were invited as chief guests.
